Anand does great reviews, that are neither pcmag (give me a break -there is no viable wintel pc competitor of the new Air in this segment) nor mac fanboy style ( how much appreciation you get from carrying a macbook around ).

There’s a lot of things to consider when choosing a quadcopter (or personal drone.) Many models are specifically designed for indoors or outdoors, and you want to make sure whichever one you chose is easy to repair. If you’ve never flown a quadcopter before, you will crash it. Not just once or twice, either.

Your first needs to be able to survive your ham-fisted attempts at learning how to use it. The 1SQ uses a vey simple design, and is clearly built with the understanding that. The individual arms that hold the motors can be replaced and re-wired with ease.

The rotors themselves come off easily, and the kit for the 1SQ includes four replacement blades. The wiring for each motor connects to the board at the center of the quadcopter using easy to remove plastic connectors. The center board is protected by a flexible plastic shell that can be removed or replaced quickly.

In the event that you have managed to flip the quadcopter, the shell will make sure nothing happens to the board. Getting from the box to your first flight is pretty simple. The quadcopter comes pre-assembled, so all you need to do is charge the included 250mAh battery. 1SQ includes a USB charging block that takes the battery on the opposite end. The charger uses a series of mildly confusing blinking lights to let you know how everything is going. When the light is solid, you are ready to fly.

The battery slides in to the bottom of the quadcopter and plugs in the front. As soon as the quadcopter has power, a red light glows from the top of the board and you are ready to turn on your radio controller and start to fly. With the battery connected, the 1SQ weighs 1.1oz. Flying the 1SQ is simpler than you might think.

The included radio gives you a small screen that lets you know how much power you are providing, allowing you to quickly tweak if necessary. Even outdoors, the gyro stabilizer on the quadcopter quickly compensates for wind or changes in terrain. If things get out of hand and you lose control of the quadcopter, the instructions clearly show that as long as you cut the power to the blades you will drastically minimize the risk of damaging the copter. Having personally crashed this 1SQ more times than I would care to admit, I can say that it holds up very well as long as you follow the flight instructions. For $100, Heli-Max has done a great job making a beginners quadcopter.

You are unlikely to be performing any mid-air flips as a novice, but the included radio is equipped to handle advanced users as well. For more advanced enthusiasts that prefer to use their own transmitter, the 1SQ works with AnyLink compliant transmitters as well.

A healthy battery is key to getting more out of a device, be it a smartphone, laptop or any consumer electronic device for that matter. That being said, Apple’s relationship with batteries has been turbulent, to say the least. Keeping that in mind, we started prowling around on the internet and found the perfect app that can monitor your MacBook’s battery and help keep it in pristine conditioning.

To find out how it’s able to do that, read on. One of the first things you can do to maintain battery longevity that doesn’t require any app installation to protect your battery is to unplug the charger when you have charged it. FruitJuice will tell you how long and when you need to keep your battery unplugged throughout the day. It does this by analyzing your previous week’s battery behavior and suggests that you stay unplugged 20 percent of the time you use your MacBook. A small menu bar symbol can be added to display how much unplugged time remains.

You can remain unplugged for as long as you like (obviously) but FruitJuice will send you unobtrusive notifications to tell you when you can appropriately plug in. To get more detail, you can click the menu bar symbol to get a detailed and structured analysis which includes daily average awake time and battery details, its capacity and number of charge cycles. It also shows a graph detailing recent power history.

FruitJuice also walks you through a maintenance cycle once in every 30 days in which you charge the battery to 100 percent and run it down to 20 percent. Another thing worth mentioning here is FruitJuice’s online FAQ directory. Its clear and precise while being short.

FruitJuice costs $9.99 on the Mac app store and some might say it’s expensive but in our opinion, it’s certainly cheaper than a new MacBook battery. We hope you find this review helpful and if you want us to review any mac app, mention it in the comments below!
